- For the purposes of this study, both wheat straw and sawdust were considered as waste residues. The former is assumed to be recovered during the harvesting process of wheat, while the latter is assumed to be a wood waste obtained from a saw mill. Thus, the production processes of wheat straw and sawdust were not taken into account during the LCA. However, pre-mixing processing for the reduction of the fibre size was applied in the scenarios where wheat straw was used. In all the aforementioned examined scenarios, the same quantity of mixing water was used during the modelling of the production systems in Gabi. Moreover, solar drying of the final product was applied; this significantly reduces the demand of energy for the whole production system of adobe bricks, but it is nevertheless representative of the real environmental effect of the adobe brick production process, both in Cyprus and worldwide, since adobes are not fired.
