Technology description
Purchased yellow phosphorus is packaged in iron drums. The phosphorus is pumped from the drums into the water seal of a phosphorus storage tank and melted using steam or hot water. The molten phosphorus is then transferred to a melting tank, where it is forced through nozzles at the top of a specialized combustion furnace by the pressure of an elevated water supply, while dry compressed air is simultaneously injected into the nozzles. Inside the furnace, the liquid phosphorus and dry air undergo complete combustion to produce phosphorus pentoxide (P₂O₅) gas. The resulting gas mixture exits the furnace at approximately 250°C and enters a hydration tower. There, it contacts circulating cold phosphoric acid in a co-current flow to facilitate absorption and hydration, while simultaneously dissipating a large amount of heat. As the circulating acid absorbs the P₂O₅ gas, its concentration and temperature continuously rise. Consequently, the acid is cooled in a plate heat exchanger after exiting the hydration tower and then recirculated. Through this continuous cycle, the acid gradually reaches the target concentration of 85% industrial phosphoric acid.
